    Warsaw: A Vegan Paradise

Discovering Warsaw: A Vegan Culinary Adventure

With my hands dusted in flour, I found myself immersed in a delightful cooking class, kneading dough and crafting little dumplings. One might imagine such an experience in Tokyo or Singapore, but I was actually in Warsaw, Poland—a city that has quietly emerged as a haven for vegan cuisine.

The Rise of Veganism in Poland

Many still associate Polish cuisine with hearty meat dishes, but a shift has been underway for the past two decades. Thanks to the dedication of local chefs and food enthusiasts, Warsaw has gained recognition as one of the world’s top vegan-friendly cities. In fact, the Happy Cow restaurant guide ranked it 11th globally last year, surpassing renowned vegan hotspots like Bangkok and Copenhagen.

    Exploring Plant-Based Delights

During my visit, I was determined to sample as much of the local vegan cuisine as possible within three days. Here’s a breakdown of my culinary journey:

    • Traditional Polish Dishes: We started at Vege Miasto, indulging in vegan pierogi filled with spinach and tofu, and crispy potato pancakes topped with oyster mushrooms.
    • Comfort Food: A hearty soy schnitzel with mash and beetroot at Veganda and Silesian potato dumplings with soy meat at Lokal Vegan Bistro helped us stay warm in the chilly weather.
    • Global Flavors: From a vibrant meze platter at Falla to noodle soup at Vegan Ramen Shop, we explored diverse tastes that reflected the city’s culinary diversity.
    • Brunch Treats: Brunch at Bistro Jaskółka featured a delicious shakshuka with tofu scramble.

    Cultural Exploration and Cooking Classes

To balance our eating escapades, we roamed the charming streets of Warsaw, visiting iconic sites and modern art exhibitions. Our culinary adventure culminated in a cooking class at Pierogi & More, where we learned to make our own dumplings, using a variety of fillings like mashed potatoes and beans. The communal experience added a fun twist, although it meant I couldn’t taste everyone else’s creations.

    Is Warsaw Truly Vegan-Friendly?

From my experience, I can confidently say that Warsaw holds its ground as one of the most vegan-friendly cities globally. The affordability and quality of the food are impressive, especially compared to other top-rated cities. By the end of our gastronomic journey, we were pleasantly stuffed but still managed to sneak in some vegan pastries from Baja for the road. After all, there’s always room for a Lotus Biscoff doughnut!

For those interested in exploring more about this culinary hotspot, I encourage you to read the original article at the source.
