Liz Meriwether has cast two key roles in her upcoming Hulu series.
Variety has learned that both Lola Petticrew and Scott McNairy are now set to star in the untitled series, which is loosely inspired by the 1987 movie “Black Widow.” Emmy Rossum is also attached to star in the drama, which was originally announced in March. In addition, Brian Kirk (“The Day of the Jackal,” “Game of Thrones”) has boarded the series as director and executive producer.
The official logline states, “An FBI agent uses the secrets from a female serial killer’s past to try and find her.” Rossum will star as the FBI agent. Petticrew will play Catherine, who is described as “a killer with a complicated past targeting wealthy men and running from the NYPD and FBI.”
McNairy will play Danny, said to be “An NYPD Homicide Detective who’s been at it too long. Danny’s sharp, tired, and emotionally tangled in ways he doesn’t bother to hide anymore.”
Meriwether serves as writer and executive producer. Rossum will executive producer under her Composition 8 banner along with Sara Moskowitz. Ron Bass, who wrote the screenplay for “Black Widow,” is also an executive producer. Kirk will direct the first two episodes and executive produce. 20th Television and Searchlight TV will produce.
Petticrew most recently starred in the FX/Hulu series “Say Nothing,” which details life in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. Their other TV credits include “Bloodlands” and “Anne Boleyn,” while they have also starred in films like “Dating Amber” and “A Bump Along the Way.”
McNairy recently played Woody Guthrie in the hit Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown.” He has been in films like “Argo,” “12 Years a Slave,” “Gone Girl,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” as well. He previously starred in the AMC series “Halt and Catch Fire” and has appeared in other shows like “Fargo,” “Godless,” “Narcos: Mexico,” and Season 3 of “True Detective.”
Petticrew is repped by Hamilton Hodell, Range Media Partners, CAA, and Shelter PR. McNairy is repped by UTA and The Group Management. Kirk is repped by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, Independent Talent and Gang Tyre.
