Pett, East Sussex
Down an old farm track, on the outskirts of a ridge-top village, is the historic French Court Farmhouse, built in about 1640, with later additions. The writer CS Lewis recorded he once lodged here. It has been restored with period features intact: the inglenook fireplace and the winder staircase. The whole plot covers one hectare (2.5 acres), and includes a wildflower front garden, woodland, paddocks, a wildlife pond and a Mediterranean courtyard. Pett sits between Winchelsea and Hastings, and it is only a six-minute drive to the nearest beach. £1.5m. Inigo, 020 3687 3071
