French authorities have launched a judicial investigation into how convicted paedophile surgeon Joël Le Scouarnec was able to abuse hundreds of children over decades while continuing to practise medicine. The move follows his 20-year prison sentence in May and mounting criticism over systemic lapses that allowed his crimes to go unchecked for years.
